Preparing for Your Procedure
Dr. Aviles develops an individualized treatment plan using detailed information about your teeth and jawbone. The former site described use of the Planmeca ProMax® 3D scanner for highly detailed images, precise surgical planning, minimal trauma, and accurate implant placement.
The Day of Your Surgery
Local anesthesia is used for comfort. Laughing gas and oral medications may be offered when appropriate for anxious patients. Dr. Aviles makes a small gum incision, creates a small opening in the bone, and places the titanium implant. Minor swelling or discomfort can generally be managed with over-the-counter medication as directed.
The Healing Period
Over the following weeks and months, implants fuse with the bone through osseointegration. The former procedure article explained that this can take up to six months. Temporary restorations may be used during healing so gaps do not interfere with eating or confidence.
Restoring Your Implants
After osseointegration, the gum tissue around the implant may be reopened to attach the abutment. After the gums heal, you return for final fitting and attachment of the custom prosthetic teeth.
