What Is PRGF?
Plasma is the largest component of blood and contains solid components, including platelets, that play a role in bone and soft-tissue healing. By concentrating proteins associated with healing, PRGF may help tissues recover more efficiently.
What Are the Benefits?
The former site described PRGF as a promising recovery aid following tooth extractions, periodontal surgery, and dental implant surgery.
- Improved soft-tissue regeneration
- Reduced post-surgical bleeding
- Improved bone regeneration
- Biocompatible treatment with minimal side-effect risk
- Treatment performed at the Palm City office
- Potentially reduced risk of post-surgical implant infection
What Should I Expect During Treatment?
Dr. Aviles draws blood, which is processed in a centrifuge to separate platelets and concentrated growth factors. The resulting plasma is used in two fractions: one intended to support soft tissue and another intended to support bone. The former site described a concentration of approximately five to ten times normal growth-factor levels.
Potential Applications
PRGF may be used after extraction to support recovery and reduce dry-socket risk, during bone grafting or implant surgery, to coat an implant post, or in a healing area. Ask Dr. Aviles whether this treatment is appropriate for your procedure.
